The right settings make your aircon more comfortable and cheaper to run. The most common mistake is setting it very low to cool the room faster — it doesn’t work that way.
The best temperature
- Summer cooling: 24–25 °C. Every degree cooler adds noticeably to the running cost — often quoted as 5 to 10% per degree.
- Sleeping: 24–26 °C with Sleep mode, which lets the temperature rise gently overnight.
- Winter heating: 20–22 °C.
The modes
| Mode | What it does | Use it when |
|---|---|---|
| Cool | Cools to the set temperature | Hot days |
| Dry | Removes moisture with gentle cooling | Humid, muggy days — especially at the coast |
| Heat | Works as a heat pump | Cold days; much cheaper than an electric heater |
| Fan | Moves air without cooling | Mild days; uses very little electricity |
| Auto | Chooses cooling or heating for you | Spring and autumn |
| Sleep / Eco | Quieter, adjusts the temperature slowly | Night time |
| Turbo / Powerful | Maximum output for a short time | Pulling down a hot room quickly |
Does setting the aircon to 16 °C cool the room faster?
No. The aircon cools at the same rate whatever temperature you set — a low setting just keeps it running until the room is far too cold, using more electricity. Set the temperature you want and use Turbo mode if you need it quicker.
Should I point the louvres up or down?
Up or horizontal when cooling, because cool air sinks; down when heating, because warm air rises.
What is the difference between Dry and Cool mode?
Dry mode concentrates on removing humidity with gentle cooling, so the room feels comfortable without getting cold. Cool mode targets the set temperature.
