Why choose an inverter aircon?

An inverter air conditioner varies its compressor speed instead of switching it on and off. Once the room reaches the set temperature it slows right down, so it holds the temperature more evenly, runs more quietly and typically uses noticeably less electricity than a fixed-speed (non-inverter) unit. Most also heat efficiently in winter.

We stock 138 models from Samsung, Daikin, LG, Alliance and Midea, from 9 000 to 60 000 BTU, with prices from R7,100. Add the units you want to your quote list and we reply with stock, delivery and installation costs.

Do inverter aircons really save electricity?

Yes, in rooms you cool or heat for several hours a day. The compressor runs at low speed most of the time instead of cycling at full power, so an inverter usually uses less electricity over a day than a fixed-speed unit of the same size. The saving is smaller if you only run the aircon now and then.

Can I run an inverter aircon on solar or a backup power system?

Often, yes. Inverter aircons start gently, without the current spike of a fixed-speed compressor, which makes them easier to run on solar and battery systems. Check that your system can supply the unit’s rated power input (on its specification sheet) and ask your installer to confirm.

What size inverter aircon do I need?

As a guide: 9 000 BTU for up to 18 m², 12 000 BTU for up to 25 m², 18 000 BTU for up to 37 m² and 24 000 BTU for up to 50 m². Allow more for afternoon sun, high ceilings and kitchens — the aircon size guide works it out for you.
