Choosing a 60 000 BTU aircon

A 60 000 BTU air conditioner gives about 17.6 kW of cooling, enough for a room of up to about 125 m² in average conditions. Choose a bigger size if the room gets strong afternoon sun, has a high ceiling or a lot of glass, or is a kitchen. Not sure? Use our aircon size guide.

We stock 12 models from LG, Alliance and Midea (4 inverter and 4 fixed-speed models), in ceiling cassettes (5), ducted & hideaway (4), underceiling units (2) and floor standing (1). Every price is shown online: add the units you want to your quote list and we reply with stock, delivery and installation costs.

What size room does a 60 000 BTU aircon cool?

A 60 000 BTU (17.6 kW) unit cools a room of up to about 125 m² with a standard ceiling and some afternoon sun. For a hot, west-facing room, an office full of people or a kitchen, go one size up.

How much does a 60 000 BTU aircon cost in South Africa?

At Aircons Online, 60 000 BTU units currently cost from R30,740 to R43,335 for the indoor and outdoor unit, with inverter models from R38,295. Shipping, delivery and installation are quoted separately.

How much electricity does a 60 000 BTU aircon use?

At full output a 60 000 BTU unit draws roughly 5.9 kW of electricity. An inverter slows down once the room has cooled, so over a day it usually uses much less than that, and less than a fixed-speed unit of the same size. The exact power input is on each model’s specification sheet.
